On-site consultation
We get to know each other. You take a short aptitude test and see the workshops. Afterwards you know which retraining course suits you.

Meeting at the employment agency
You discuss the retraining with your adviser. The employment agency often adds a test of its own. If you receive basic income support, the job centre supports you.

Education voucher
The employment agency decides. With the voucher, the course fees are covered. We help you with the application.
Who pays for what?

If you like: preparatory course
Six weeks of preparation: basics in maths, metal and electrical work, with job-related German. Not required, but a good start.

During retraining

Start on 01/03/2027
Your retraining begins. You learn in small groups of about 15 people, Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 15:15.
Every month
Class and workshop
3,840 teaching units in 16 learning fields, with trainers from the trade. Every month you receive €150 further training allowance on top, provided the employment agency funds your retraining and you meet the requirements.

After about 18 months
Part 1 of the journeyman’s exam
The Chamber of Crafts (HWK) sets the date. It also depends on when your retraining starts. If you pass, you receive a €1,000 bonus.
Three months, after part 1
Work placement
After part 1 of the exam you learn in a company for three months. You apply what you have learned and make contacts. Beforehand we practise applications for the placement with you. The further training allowance continues.
About 7 months
Deepen and prepare for the exam
After the placement you learn with us again. You deepen your specialist knowledge and prepare specifically for the exam.

Qualification and beyond

Journeyman’s exam
Your retraining ends on 09/07/2029. If you pass, you receive your journeyman’s certificate and a €1,500 bonus.
After your qualification
Your new career
You are a skilled worker with a recognised qualification. Where you are needed and what skilled workers earn is shown on the careers page.
